  • Session description: Join our panelists for a fun warm-up to the We Robot conference. We will explore the basics of robotics and maybe even make a friend along the way.
  • Session lead: Bill Smart

9:45 – 10:45  Roboethics: If it’s So Easy Why Don’t You Try It

  • Session description: In this panel, you will help develop ethical “policies” for a hypothetical CareBot, followed by a discussion of what was proposed. The winners of the Roboethics Competition at ICRA will present their winning policy and implementation.

12:00 – 2:00    Build Your Own Sidewalk Robot and Robot Policy Session + Lunch: See, It’s Harder Than It Looks (and It Looks Pretty Hard)

  • Session description: Here you will develop policy as a group, then try and “build” a robot that follows the rules. Good luck. You’ll need it!

3:15 – 4:45    Terrible Ideas for Regulating Robots: What’s the Worst that Could Happen?

  • Session description: Bring your worst ideas for regulating problems for modern robotics to this panel. We’ll discuss them and you never know—maybe they aren’t as bad as you think. (But they probably are).

5:00    Robot Trivia: As if Watson Could Hang with this Crew

  • Session description: Bring your useless knowledge of robotics and an appetite for fun and some light appetizers and drinks for the nerdiest competition of all.
